I just wanted to add that i appreciate all of NLees reviews and information as it is very helpful.
I just purchased and recieved 2 4 packs of AA and 2 packs of AAA Duracells from Amazon.com here. The ones I recieved i was happy to find are the Japan made version that look just like the Eneloops.
I still went ahead with my purchase after reading NLees review that they also have China made versions that are slightly not as good as the Japan made battries. Still for the money they were a great deal.
So I was happy to get these even though I would have prefered Eneloops for the distinct coloration difference compared to normal "Copper Top" Duracells

This is a great battery. It has total power similar to a good alkaline battery, and holds its charge for a year. Duracell calls them "pre-charged rechargeables," and they are often called "Ultra Low Self-Discharge (ULSD)" rechargeables.
Its the only rechargeable battery that works for "long-duration" uses, such as remote controls, thermostats, and other places where batteries have low drain for long periods of time. Ive been buying and using these batteries for nearly a year now, with excellent results. I keep a spare set in my gym bag for my headlamp and GPS, and they always have power after sitting unused for months. Thats unlike other rechargeables which have invariably self-discharged by the time I need them.
The rule of thumb that I have heard and believe, is that if a battery is going to be stored or in use for over a month, ULSD rechargeables have more usable power than traditional rechargeables. Over the course of a month, a standard rechargeable loses at least 1/3 of its total power to self-discharge. These batteries potentially have fewer charge/discharge cycles before they start to degrade, but they need fewer charges because they dont self-discharge. Overall, its a win for all my uses.
Ill be buying these exclusively for the foreseeable future.

Update 12/08...After some time Ive discovered that they do, in fact, a noticeable increase in shelf life. They really are the only choice in re-chargeables. 5
I bought these Hybrid batterys after learning that NiMH are known to drain quickly even while being unused. I did noticed something wasnt right as I would have to charge them every 2 weeks or so in my Canon S2 camera.
Well, its been 2 weeks with the pre-charged and guess what, I have a low battery indicator on the camera but have been nursing them along just to see how long it will take for the camera to shut down. I also bought the AAA for a electric pepper mill and theyre still going after about a month but the regular alkaline lasted a few months so Im still not convinced if these really are any better in high drain devices.

If you have a digital camera that uses AA batteries, this is the battery to use! It retains its charge for a much longer time than normal rechargeables. For long trips to exotic places, this relieves the worry of not being able to recharge every night. Essential is you are camping.

I have used several types of rechargeable batts over the years and found that they were not made to the exact size of the throw aways, so some devices would not accept them because of post size, width etc, These have fit every device I have tried them in without fail.
